Parrot Information :Parrots are fascinating creatures that win the attention of Humans with their acrobatic and amusing antics and their ability to mimic human speech.
Parrots and Psittacoses are grouped into two families: the Cacatuidae or cockatoos, and the Psittacidae or true parrots.
Habitat:Parrots nest, feed and breed in a wide variety of environments such as deserts, rainforests, mountain ranges, flat grasslands and coastal areas. Some parrots have a preference for nectar and pollen so their habitat is mainly limited to the forested areas of the continent. Diet; Food and eating habbits:Parrots eat insects, seeds, flowers, fruits and berries. As a large part of a parrots diet is to consists of seeds, parrots have a very strong beak to crack open shells. They also use it for climbing up trees and holding on branches. A parrots beak continually grows, chewing on things such as seeds and branches helps keep a parrots beak in sharp, well sized condition. Similar to pet dogs walking on pavements, which keeps their claws in shape.
Predators:As parrots usually feed in groups, in high tree canopies. The high perches and large groups ensures that there are many eyes to spot predators and then an easy escape as they drop from the tall trees. It is thought that many predators would indeed hunt and eat parrots, that is if they could.
Social Structure:Parrots live and hunt together. A group of parrots is called a flock. They live in nests high up in the tree tops, carefully chosen to be as safe as possible.
Birth, Offspring:Most small parrots breed between August and January. This is when most food is available.
Attributes:Parrots have sharp beaks used to crack nutshells, climb trees and hold onto branches.
