Parrot Information :

Parrots are fascinating creatures that win the attention of Humans with their acrobatic and amusing antics and their ability to mimic human speech. Parrots and Psittacoses are grouped into two families: the Cacatuidae or cockatoos, and the Psittacidae or true parrots.
There are approximately 350 types of this species of bird. The most commonly known are the Quaker parrot,Amazon parrotAfrican grey parrot and Lovebirds (Genus Agapornis).

Habitat:

Parrots nest, feed and breed in a wide variety of environments such as deserts, rainforests, mountain ranges, flat grasslands and coastal areas. Some parrots have a preference for nectar and pollen so their habitat is mainly limited to the forested areas of the continent.
The majority of parrots live in South and Central America, over 70 species live in Brazil. Smaller numbers of parrot can be found in India, Africa, South East Asia, Australasia, the Philippines and New Zealand.
Many species of parrots are endangered due to the clearing of tropical rainforest for development or agriculture, this has destroyed a lot of the parrot's habitat, making it difficult for them to feed and breed.

Diet; Food and eating habbits:

Parrots eat insects, seeds, flowers, fruits and berries. As a large part of a parrots diet is to consists of seeds, parrots have a very strong beak to crack open shells. They also use it for climbing up trees and holding on branches. A parrots beak continually grows, chewing on things such as seeds and branches helps keep a parrots beak in sharp, well sized condition. Similar to pet dogs walking on pavements, which keeps their claws in shape.
Pet parrots are usually fed dried fruits and bird food;bird seeds.

Predators:

As parrots usually feed in groups, in high tree canopies. The high perches and large groups ensures that there are many eyes to spot predators and then an easy escape as they drop from the tall trees. It is thought that many predators would indeed hunt and eat parrots, that is if they could.
Known predators are the Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle (Spizastur melanoleucus) and the Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpija). Studies of the Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle have shown that they are specialists on large birds and that macaws and Amazon parrots are likely to be a regular part of their diet.

Social Structure:

Parrots live and hunt together. A group of parrots is called a flock. They live in nests high up in the tree tops, carefully chosen to be as safe as possible.

Birth, Offspring:

Most small parrots breed between August and January. This is when most food is available.
Some species living in dry areas will breed after rain in any given season. Cockatoos mainly breed between March and October.
Parrots lay eggs either in their pet parrot cage or tree top nest.
Smaller parrots can lay up to 8 legs where as cockatoos and lorikeets usually lay one to three eggs
