Goldfish Information :

Goldfish are the most popular out of all aquarium fish in the world as they can live in most types of conditions. Goldfish have been pets for years. Experts think they were first in kept as pets in China. Chinese people kept them near temples where they started breeding them. There are over one hundred types of goldfish.

Habitat:

Goldfish are coldwater fish. That means they don't need warmed water like most other aquarium fish. They can live in water that is very cold, but like it best if the water is room temperature. They live in ponds, tanks and goldfish bowls. Care should be taken with pet goldfish to avoid disease.

Diet; Food and eating habbits:

Goldfish eat pet goldfish flakes and pellets aswell as aquatic plants and even vegetables! Care needs to be taken as overfeeding can cause death. 

Predators:

Cats and birds are among the predators of these fish in ponds. Man have also been know to eat goldfish!  

Social Structure:

Goldfish are social animals and shouldn't be kept alone, but in small groups, idealy about ten.
Goldfish like to swim in groups through the water whilst searching for food.  

Birth, Offspring:

Females need coldwater plants in shallow (under a foot) water to spawn. They lay thousands of eggs and they hatch in four to seven days.  

Attributes:

Scientists have discovered that goldfish have a memory span of up to three months and they can also tell the time.
The fish, previously thought to have a memory of a couple of seconds, can actually tell between different times of day and can be trained to follow a routine.
