Shark Information :

Sharks are a type of fish. Sharks come in diverse shapes and sizes. Sharks are streamlined with smooth skin to make swimming easy. They are darker on the top of their bodies to camouflage with the bottom of the ocean and lighter underneath to blend with the surface light from underneath. Sharks have five types of fins and numerous rows of teeth which replace themselves as functional teeth fall out.

Habitat:

Sharks inhabit the open ocean and deep lower ocean as well as exploring shallow coastal waters. They can adapt to warm and cold environments and can be found in various waters worldwide.

Diet; Food and eating habbits:

Sharks eat almost anything: fishes, marine mammals, and other sharks. Humans have been victim to shark attacks, they confuse the silhouette of swimming humans as seals or other marine animals. Many sharks prey most often on the weak members of a population. They select ill, injured, or dying prey because it is easier to catch. In captivity, a shark eats about 1 % to 1 0% of its total body weight per week. Studies on sharks in the wild show similar eating habits.

Predators:

Predators of the shark include killer whales, elephant seals, other sharks and humans.

Social Structure:

Sharks are often found in groups, sometimes displaying dominance hierarchies. Sharks can learn and remember things and can display social complexity, predatory flexibility, curiosity and possibly even playfulness.

Birth, Offspring:

Male sharks usually bite female sharks while mating. Gestation periods vary between types or breed of shark, and according to water temperature as sharks are cold blooded. Sharks bear their young where other sharks aren’t present. As soon as sharks are born they are fully formed and able to fend for themselves.

Attributes:

Sharks have eyes similar to cats. They have a mirror like glaze that allows them to see in murky water. Two thirds of a shark's brain is dedicated to its sense of smell. Sharks also have some remarkable senses. They are able to feel vibrations in the water and the electrical field coming off its prey.
