Cats Information :There are more than 30 different breeds of domestic cat and it is believed that all originated from the African Wildcat. Domestication is thought to have occurred more than 4000 years ago in Egypt. Cats have been selected by humans to display a wide array of body shapes and colours, from hairless forms to long-haired Persians and tail-less Manx cats to very large Maine coon cats. Colours range from black through white, with mixtures of reds, yellows, and browns also occurring.
Habitat:Domestic cats occur in many habitat types because of their association with humans. They do best in areas where winters are not severely cold. Domestic cats that are kept indoors live 10 years longer than cats that are wild or live ourdoors. Some cats are abandoned or lost by there owners and become stray cats, leaving them to find there own food and shelter, even if it means entering another cats territory. Diet; Food and eating habbits:Cats are carnivorous. The domestic cat will eat the pet food provided by its caregiver. However house cats will still hunt small vermin such as mice, rats and birds.
Predators:Cats are most vulnerable to predators when young. Usual predators are foxes, dogs and other cats. They can be quite aggressive, especially when behaving territorially Cats will often try hard to protect themselves.
Social Structure:Solitary by nature, cats are very independent creatures, yet in areas with abundant food sources, they can establish social organization and tolerate each other quite well. Cats brought up in pairs are often happier than single cats especially if of the opposite sex.
Birth, Offspring:A female cat is mature from about six months and a male cat from about ten months. The average length of pregnancy is 65 days or about nine weeks from the date of the mating. Litter size averages at four to six kittens and they can breed as often as three times a year.
Attributes:A cat uses its whiskers to determine if their bodies can fit through small openings such as small pipes, and other various objects. Their eyes are adapted for vision in dim light for hunting just after dusk or before dawn.
